The stories of the sacred, human and physical realms are all present in my art. Stories shape how we think, behave and see ourselves. I am interested in how these narratives control spaces and how I can reflect them both truthfully and abstractly within layers of paint.
Kinship makes the Sacred World a living field, an ecosystem projected from the Dreaming. Amiwerre, the Milky Way, watches over as old patterns repeat through current events, social division, conflict, noise and power struggles.
Right now, this Human World is filled with big talking heads who give power to these patterns. These loud voices are dominating public spaces, especially those spreading misinformation through social media. I exaggerate cartoonish forms to reflect the spectacle of oversized opinions and constant performance.
The Physical World grounds this reflection. Subsections of the Northern Territory are shaped by a cultural and colonial lineage that shows itself in the dirt and dust, in the heat and in the labour of remembering and continuing on. Here, energy moves through place and people as vibrations, a power felt in the body and, expressed in my art practice.
